A new entry in the Dead or Alive Xtreme franchise has been announced for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in Japan.
According to Famitsu (via NeoGAF), the two versions will have different names, with the Vita edition referred to as "Venus". As it currently stands there has been no confirmation of a Western release.
Dead or Alive Xtreme is a spin-off franchise of the main Dead or Alive fighting franchise, where the girls from the series traditionally go to an island to play volleyball, model, and take part in other mini-games. The original title, Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball released back in 2003 on Xbox, with the sequel Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 coming in 2006 on Xbox 360. The dropping of volleyball from the title was done to emphasise that it was no longer at the core of the gameplay experience.
The most recent entry in the main fighting series, Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, was released earlier this year. IGN's review of Dead or Alive 5: Last Round says that it's great "when you’re in the midst of a tense, down-to-the-last-read match in the middle of a battlefield erupting with explosions."
