How will our minds and bodies respond to these deeply immersive experiences?
VICE spoke to developers, designers, and researchers about VR's therapeutic potential, as well as the ethical dilemmas and medical risks game designers must take into account when building new virtual worlds.

The Warlock Exotic Helmet “The Stag” is currently unavailable from Exotic Armor Blueprint Collection. We are actively investigating this issue.
Rise of Iron comes with new missions, a brand new area, new player-vs-player arenas and a game mode, new weapons and gear, and a brand new Raid - although the Raid won't go live until just after launch.
In the lead up to launch, Bungie has launched a mysterious alternative reality game in which Crucible players become infected.
Players were becoming infected with different strands of a mysterious virus, each with its own perks. The viruses are named: Brilliance 3.2, Glory 2.1, Splendor 2.6, Magnificence 2.0 and Fortitude 3.1.
The virus appears as a swarm of light around an infected player's head. Killing an infected player spreads the virus to a new Guardian.
The effects of the virus have been documented on a website called Owl Sector, which gives hourly updates in the run up to the launch of the Rise of Iron expansion.
WONDERING whether you should buy a PS4 Slim, Xbox One S or wait for the PS4 Pro? Read our review of Sony's new console, which is OUT NOW.
PS4 Slim is out now in the UK
After the least surprising announcement ever, Sony's brand new and slimmed down PS4 - unofficially dubbed the PS4 Slim - is out now, priced at £259 for the basic model, or £309 for the 1TB version.
But while the existence of a slimmer PlayStation wasn't exactly a secret - you could buy one at CEX, after all - nobody was knew how much smaller it actually was, or whether it had any nifty new tricks up its sleeve.
Sony may have answered these questions and more during last week's conference, but now fans want to know if it looks as good as it sounds, how it measures up to the competition and whether it's worth buying one or waiting for the PS4 Pro.
Read on for Express Online's review of the PS4 Slim and check out the gallery below for a closer look at Sony's slick new device:
The PS4 PRO will be released on November 10, 2016 and has some new high resolution screenshots shared by Sony.
PS4 Slim - Just how good does it look and what can it do?
While the PS4 Slim looks noticeably better than the original PS4 console, the makeover hasn't exactly been extreme - not that it needed to be, mind you.
It's like the original PS4 has cut down on the junk food, had a shave and been kitted out with some nice new clothes.
Lying down flat, the PS4 Slim is more than a centimetre shorter than the original PS4, measuring in at around 3.9cm, compared to the heftier 5.3cm of its predecessor.
It's also sporting a much squarer and more even 26.5cm x 26.5cm frame, compared to the original's 27.5cm x 30cm rectangular base.
The PS4 Slim's matte black finish is easier on the eye, while the physical buttons eliminate any power and disc blunders you might have experienced with the original.
Then there are the little touches like the PlayStation symbols on the underside of the console, the quieter fan and the slightly modified DualShock 4 controller with front-facing lightbar for clearer in-game notifications.
Assuming the controller's thumbsticks can take a little more punishment than the original - it's hard to tell how durable they are at this early stage - then Sony has seemingly ironed out most of the complaints we had about the original console.
PS4 Slim vs Xbox One S - which console is best?
Choosing your console really comes down to the kind of exclusive games you want to play. Sony has the likes of The Last of Us, Uncharted, Bloodborne and No Man's Sky, while Microsoft can count Gears of War, Halo, Forza and Quantum Break among its ranks.
However, if you were basing your choice of console purely on aesthetics, then it's the Xbox One S that makes a bigger splash.
iUnlike the PS4 Slim, the Xbox One WAS in desperate need of a new look, and has gone down the 10 Years Younger path of plastic surgery and expensive new threads.
The power brick is no more, the robot white colour scheme is stunning, and the matching controller handles like a dream.
One of the Xbox One's big selling points is HDR support, which thanks to a recent update, comes with all PS4 consoles as standard, even the old one. Kudos to Sony for that.
The Xbox One S does have Ultra-HD Blu-ray support, but unless you've got a 4K TV with HDR, then you're not really going to get the benefits of all this fancy new tech.
So it's Microsoft that gets the upper-hand in this particular battle, but with virtual reality about to come to PS4, not to mention the strength of those platform exclusives, it's hard to recommend anything other than the PlayStation at this point.

Should I buy a PS4 Slim or wait for the PS4 Pro?
The other big decision you'll need to make is whether to go for a PS4 Slim or wait for the PS4 Pro to launch.
It's actually an easy choice, because the price difference isn't that drastic - the 1TB PS4 Slim costs £309, compared to £349 for the 1TB PS4 Pro - and the PS4 Pro is out on November 10, so there's only a couple of months to wait.
The PS4 Pro supports 4K gaming, runs games at a higher frame-rate and boasts a more powerful CPU and GPU. It will be particularly useful if you're planning on buying a power-sapping PlayStation VR headset in October.
If you crave more power, flashier visuals and have got your PlayStation VR headset on pre-order, then hold off on the PS4 Slim and grab a PS4 Pro instead.
But if you are in the market for an entry-level PS4 that will sit under your TV with room to spare, then the PS4 Slim is definitely the way to go.

Microsoft believes that their latest upgrade to the Xbox, the Xbox Scorpio, will be far better than Sony's Playstation 4 Pro. It seems like the two biggest gaming console developers are once again in for another console war.
The feud between the two technological giants have since simmered down over the years, and have seen each other as healthy competition, but since the unveiling of the Playstation 4 Pro, all signs of friendly sportsmanship between the two have gone out the window, as Microsoft promises to deliver a better product with the release of the Xbox Scorpio.
Xbox Senior Director of product management and planning, Albert Penello, has said that he feels pretty good with the decisions they've made with the Scorpio, in a phone interview with Polygon. Penello has stated that the new Xbox Scorpio will have more features than Sony's new Playstation 4 upgrade, adding that 4K resolution is indeed the future of both the Xbox and Playstation, while their own product will be indeed more powerful.
Pocket-lint has recently provided a hardware comparison between the Playstation 4 Pro and the Xbox Scorpio. In terms of graphics, the Xbox Scorpio will have a system on chip of 6 teraflops to render its 4K graphics, much like the ones used for high-end PC gaming, while the Playstation 4 Pro only has 4.2 teraflops of processing power, while running on an AMD Radeon-based GDU. While both consoles will feature 4K HDR video streams, the PS4 Pro does not have a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player, which was quickly pointed out by Microsoft. For CPU and memory, both consoles will run on an octa-core CPU, with the PS4 running on the x86-64 Jaguar.
After the recent unveiling of the Playstation 4 Pro, and making the announcement that it will be launched this coming November with a $399 price tag, the world is now looking at Microsoft to unveil more of the Xbox Scorpio. The Scorpio is rumored to be released late in 2017.
Gaming on your PCs has been made more affordable than ever recently and for many, PC gaming is considered to be of the best value. This point has been proven, ironically, with the launching of Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro, and here are some of the reasons why.
Affordability
Video Cards are essential for great PC gaming, the prices of which have drastically lowered lately. An example of this is the Radeon RX 480, which costs a mere $200.
A graphics card which enables you to play at a screen resolution of 1080p and 60fps would require you to shell out the same amount.
More Room for Upgrades
People are expected to get frustrated by November. The PlayStation 4, which a lot have bought some few years back, was believed to be the most powerful gaming console ever.
This made them expect it to last for years. These consoles, however, don't give any room for upgrades of any sort.
If you want to "upgrade" your PS4, the only way for you to do so is to get a whole new unit altogether.
Console to PC Compatibility
Console games have been around for decades, and a lot of these games from back then are accessible for PC players to this day. GOG.com is one of these sites which allow you to do so and allows you to play a lot of mods for a better gaming experience.
Versatility of Controls
There are just so many console games you can play on the PC nowadays, and some of us would love to play as we would with a console. Some of these popular Console to PC games include Assassin's Creed and Dark Souls.
The playing experience for these games would be great with a gamepad. It is, however, much less of a hassle to connect to a controller the DualShock 4 or the Xbox One controller for the PC with Bluetooth.

The augmented reality (AR) mobile game by Nintendo has taken the world by storm since its release in the US less than a month ago. The craze has even hit India as people are now playing the game, although by creating US IDs. You may even see kids (and even some adults for that matter) wandering around your city glued to mobile phone screens.
Just two weeks after it was out in the US, it recorded over 30 million downloads and $35 million in revenue, according to Venture Beat report. The game has also surpassed all other popular games like Candy Crush by a mile.
It has also said to have overtaken Twitter in terms of active users and Facebook in terms of engagement. This has got everyone’s attention, especially brands.
While brands in India are enthusiastic of joining the game, the question still remains regarding its participation with the game still not launched in the country.
Several ad agencies that the Zeebiz team spoke to said that brands in India have been inquiring about possible associations with the AR mobile game.
Rajiv Dingra, Founder and CEO of digital agency WAT Media says that brands in India are becoming a part of Pokemon Go through social media in which they use characters or situations from the game in a quirky manner.
Some Indian brands that have used Pokemon Go in their social media strategy include PassPass, Pulse candy, Red Chillies Entertainment andZee Cinema in their recent Facebook posts.
Similarly, Zafar Rais, CEO of Mindshift Interactive says, “The game is yet to be launched officially in India so it’s a very early stage to see official associations happening however there are some basic integration seen through brands leveraging it as a topical peg through their content strategy. It’s just only a matter of time before major brands jump on the bandwagon in India and create more intrinsic strategies.”
“In India Nintendo has already put in place a company to protect their intellectual property (IP) rights,” added Dingra.
Mobile gaming in India grew over $571.6 million in 2016, according to a research by Newzoo and OneSky.
In spite of this, brands in India might have to wait for much longer before they can seen their products or brand placed in the game. As Suveer Bajaj, Cofounder of FoxyMoron says the first beta testing for brand integration is still being conducted in the US. So it will be some time before it is out in India.
“With the increasing popularity we can estimate that the launch (of the game for brands) can be expected within the quarter,” said Rais. He added, “We see news from around the world of McDonald’s trying to strike a deal with Niantic to possibly to have the gyms inside the restaurants.”
While it still not certain when the game will be out in India and for brand integrations, however brands and ad agencies are already looking at ways to integrate themselves with the game.
Bajaj said brands can look at making their stores Gyms and also offer discounts on their products.
Indian connection
Some Indian brands that have used Pokemon Go in their social media strategy include PassPass Pulse candy, Red Chillies Entertainment and Zee Cinema in their recent Facebook posts. Mobile gaming in India grew over $571.6 million in 2016, according to a research by Newzoo and OneSky.
A lot of people complain about how expensive video games have become. Base games typically cost upwards of $60, and when you add downloadable content, expansion packs, and occasionally micro-transactions, the price continues to grow. For video game collectors, though, this kind of price tag is absolutely nothing. There are games out there whose values exceed the average car payment. In this article, I’ll talk about the top 10 most expensive and valuable video games. Try to take some of the estimated price ranges that I mention with a grain of salt. If you happen to find one of these games in your attic, its value would also depend upon its condition, its region, and whether or not you have the original package and manual. Not to mention, some variants of a game are more valuable than others. With that being said, let’s take a closer look at some of the priciest treasures that the gaming world has to offer.
I’m sure you’re reeling from that price tag, but allow me a second to explain myself. Gamma Attack is a game that technically never existed. It was originally “distributed” by a company called Gammation, which is only known for having had produced peripherals for Atari systems. Although there have
been rumors over the years that Gammation may have developed a few games, there was never any evidence. Until 2008, that is. Apparently, only a single copy of this game is known to exist, and its owner is really hesitant to part with it. He has said that the gameplay is unremarkable, but that the game probably would have done well if it were released when the 2600 was popular. You play as a UFO, and you’re able to shoot at tanks on the ground. When you’re dealing with a game that only has one copy, that means that the game’s owner is really able to dictate what the game is worth. In this case, a whopping half of a million dollars.
#2 – Super Mario Bros. with Asian Cover (Nintendo Entertainment System) [Est. Price Range: $20,000 – $25,000]
The next game on our list is a highly sought after variant. The Asian version of Super Mario Bros. (identified as such by a convenient ASIAN VERSION label located towards the bottom of the game’s box) is arguably one of the most valuable variants in the video game collecting world. Like Tetris, pretty much everyone has played Super Mario Bros. However, this special cover is what makes the game as valuable as it is. This cartridge is unique in that, although it is technically an NTSC copy, is capable of being displayed in Cantonese. This may seem like a minuscule difference, but it makes a world of difference. In November of 2012, this variant sold on eBay for a whopping $25,000. For comparison, a standard, loose copy of Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System will typically sell for a few bucks in a garage sale.
#3 – 1990 Nintendo World Championship (Nintendo Entertainment System) [Est. Price Range: $14,700 – $78,900]
The 1990 Nintendo World Championship cartridge is another rare competition cartridge, and it is substantially more valuable than the Blockbuster cartridge that we talked about earlier. The custom cartridges contains custom mini-games based on Super Mario Bros., Rad Racer, and Tetris. The cartridges themselves have been distributed in two variants: grey and gold. The grey cartridges were given to the competition’s finalists, and the more rare gold copies were distributed in a separate contest held by Nintendo Power magazine. This cartridge is widely known as one of the most valuable NES cartridges in existence, with its relatively large quantity makes it common enough for people to know about, but with a certain mystique that makes it rare enough to be valuable. (As you can imagine, people are more reluctant to part with a Nintendo World Championship cart than they would be to part with a Blockbuster World Championship cart.)
Superman was actually a fairly popular Atari 2600 game upon its release, and a lot of people have owned and played it. Before you go digging in your basement for this game, though, recall what I said before about certain cartridge variants being worth more than others. The Sears Telegames variant of Superman is one of the rarest Atari 2600 cartridges out there. This particular game is easily identified by its Sears Telegames label, as well as its yellow text. Most people own the standard version of the game, which has red text on the label. This version is worth pennies compared to the Sears Telegram variant. This is also the rarest Sears Telegames variant that is currently in existence, and people will spend good money to get their hands on it. A boxed copy sold for around $30,000 on eBay a couple of years ago.
The next game I’m going to talk about is sort of a weird one. Birthday Mania isn’t a game so much as it is a novelty. The game is intended to be given as a birthday gift, and it is packaged in a box that allows the gift giver to write the recipient’s name. The gameplay itself is mostly sparse, and it consists primarily of mini-games. In these mini-games, the player will do things like blow out candles and pop different balloons. This game may seem kind of lame, but consider that it was created by an independent programmer and only advertised in a local newspaper. The game is said to have sold between 10 and 15 copies, although apparently only a few verified copies of Birthday Mania actually exist. Although independent games today are usually pretty inexpensive, the unofficial means of this game’s distribution and production make it really hard to pin down, which only makes it more valuable in the eyes of a collector.
Before games like Wii Fit and Just Dance flooded the market, Nintendo gamers had to look to other sources to get their “fitness” fix. This game was released alongside a power pad controller, which was basically a roll out DDR-style mat that was used to participate in the game’s running and jumping events. Players would line up on different sections of the mat and run and jump on the different buttons to participate in athletic events. Stadium Events was released in September of 1987, but very soon after its release, the game was recalled so that it could be rebranded. The NTSC original release of this game is considered one of the rarest NES games out there, and it has sold for close to $35,000 in good condition. When you exclude variant titles and exclusive cartridges, Stadium Events actually does hold the honor of being the most valuable game for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
#7 – Blockbuster World Championships II (Sega Genesis / Mega Drive) [Est. Price Range: $10,100 – $17,000]
The next item on our list brings us to another Genesis game. It is also our first “specialty” cartridge. You see, during the 1990s, video game publishers and distributors liked to host different gaming competitions, some of which were pretty massive. In order to hold these competitions, custom cartridges were made and packed with modified games, making them ideal for competitive play. This particular cartridge was used in the second Blockbuster World Video Game Championships. If you’re ever able to get your hands on this cart, you’ll find that it contains altered versions of Judge Dredd and NBA Jam Tournament Edition. The event was held in 1995, and gaming was held on both the Mega Drive and on the SNES. The SNES cartridges were distributed as prizes to the contest’s winners, and the Mega Drive cartridges were actually ordered to be destroyed upon the contest’s finish. Obviously, some of them made it into the public.
If you’re a living and breathing human being, I am willing to bet that you have played Tetris at some point in your life. Most people first encountered the game on a Nintendo Entertainment System, an original Gameboy, a Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or some other Nintendo console. Well, did you know that before a Nintendo-exclusive deal was inked, the game was about to get onto the Genesis? It is rumored that around ten copies of the games were created and distributed before Nintendo called for a recall. Today, Tetris is arguably one of the rarest titles that you can try to find for the Genesis. There have been instances of people trying to sell this special version of the beloved classic for upwards of $1,000,000 dollars. However, the price range listed above is considered a slightly more reasonable going price for this collectible.
#9 – The King of Fighters 2000 (Neo Geo) [Est. Price Range: $4,000 – $5,600]
The Neo Geo AES console is one of those consoles that no one ever really owned. At the time of its release in 1990, it was ridiculously powerful. Its hardware was much more powerful than most hardware that you could find inside of a personal computer. (Compare this to today, where most consoles are significantly weaker than personal computers.) Befitting its specs, the Neo Geo was sold for close to $650 upon launch. Its sales were really low, since most people weren’t willing to part with that kind of money for it. The King of Fighters 2000 is a competitive fighting game that was really popular on other platforms, but it saw a limited release on the Neo Geo AES. It has been rumored that only around 100 copies of this game exist.
Wrecking Crew is one of the least well-known Mario games out there. The game was released in 1985, and it was actually bundled with a lot of Nintendo Entertainment Systems upon the console’s launch. Gameplay is fairly simple. Basically, you are looking to destroy certain items with a large hammer. Each level is different, and the fact that the player character is unable to jump means that each level presents a new puzzle. The game has become popular in recent years, but it obviously never became as popular as some of Mario’s other games. How is it so valuable? Although the game was originally bundled with the NES, it still possesses a lot of value in a mint condition, factory sealed form. It has sold for $1,000 and up in this sort of condition.
